What is GST?

GST (Goods and Services Tax) is a single indirect tax applied to the supply of goods and services. It replaces most previous indirect taxes and is charged at slab rates of 5%, 12%, 18%, or 28% depending on the item or service.

Formula

GST amount = Base price × (rate / 100)
Base price (from inclusive amount) = Amount / (1 + rate/100)

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate GST on an amount?

To add GST, multiply the base amount by the rate and add it to the original amount. To remove GST from an inclusive amount, divide by (1 + rate/100) to recover the base price.

What is the difference between CGST and SGST?

For transactions within the same state, GST is split equally into CGST and SGST, each being half the total rate. For inter-state transactions, IGST applies instead at the full rate.
